Clay Thomas, M.S., LCCA
Clay Thomas, M.S., LCCAExecutive Director
Clay is responsible for the oversight of all operations at Girls’ Haven. He has over 18 years of experience working in the field of juvenile justice and foster care services including 13 years of managing organizations. He has held several administrative positions; Superintendent for county juvenile residential correctional facilities, Assistant Director for a juvenile probation & parole department, Vice President for a children’s home and as Executive Director for a residential treatment center and Regional Director for a foster & adoption agency. For the past 8 years, he has worked for non-profit organizations that promoted a culture of quality through strategic goals that directly affected positive outcomes for children in care. Clay holds a master’s degree in criminal justice and a bachelor’s degree in psychology. In addition, he holds a child care administrator’s license issued by the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services.
Alan Apperson, M. Ed, LPC
Alan Apperson, M. Ed, LPCTreatment Director
Alan oversees all aspects of our girls’ mental and emotional well being. He is experienced in “at risk” teens with major mental health disorders as well as, anxiety, depression, and anger. He specializes in individual, family, and marriage counseling. Alan brings the experience and understanding needed to allow our girls to heal from past traumas. Alan holds a BS in Psychology from Texas A&M and a M.Ed Cslg & Development from Lamar University. In addition, he is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor.
Jade Rayburn

Jade is a Beaumont native with a passion for service to better the lives of others. Jade holds a degree in business management and has spent her career in non-profit development and community relations. Jade’s primary focus is grant writing, fundraising, event and volunteer management, and donor relations. In addition, Jade oversees all public relations and marketing for Girls’ Haven, Inc.

Leslie Valentine
Leslie ValentineSupervised Independent Living Coordinator
Leslie is the Coordinator for our SIL (Supervised Independent Living Program); a voluntary extended foster care placement that helps residents gain independence by living on their own with support from caseworkers and the staff at Girls’ Haven. Leslie helps to coordinate the development and expansion of the SIL program established through Girls’ Haven. Leslie also supports the girls by aiding in their journey to becoming self-sufficient. Leslie helps them to develop independent living skills through achieving identified education and employment goals, accessing community resources, engaging in needed life skills training, and establishing important relationships. Leslie holds a BA in Psychology from Texas State University and is acquiring her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University.

Bethany CherryCase Manager
Bethany joined Girls’ Haven as Case Manager after interning with us during her last semester of undergrad. During her internship, it became quickly apparent that Bethany was meant to be part of our team, due to her compassionate yet firm nature. She ensures our girls medical, educational, behavioral, emotional and legal needs are being met, along with our Treatment Director and Case Aide. Bethany graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies & Minor in Social Work. She is currently pursing a Masters degree in Family Studies at Lamar University.

Brittany works tirelessly to ensure all medical, educational, behavioral, emotional, and legal needs are being met for the twenty-four girls residing at Girls’ Haven. Brittany has a passion for helping children reach their highest potential by overcoming the past traumas they have endured during their lifetime. Currently pursing her bachelor’s degree in Sociology at Lamar University, Brittany plans to continue her career in the social work field.
Jackie Shello
Jackie ShelloNutrition Manager
Jackie is responsible for all aspects of the kitchen. She plans healthy and nutritious meals for our girls and ensures proper food safety and handling are executed by all kitchen staff. Jackie holds her Food Manager’s Certificate and Food Handling Certificate. She works daily to maintain all food orders, deliveries, and regulatory requirements.

Deana has a passion for helping others and as a mother of three daughters she has a desire to be part of the Girls’ Haven team. She is always willing to assist our entire team with daily tasks and is the friendly smile to greet you at the door. Deana has vast clerical experience form her career working as a paraprofessional at a high school.

Rob is the supervisor of all house, vehicle and equipment maintenance. He also ensures we are current on all fire and safety standards
